The Church and Holiness
The role of Christ in our lives is important and the New Testament makes it clear that we are to become more like Christ each day...
Matthew 5:48 - Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Romans 8:13 - For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Romans 12:1-2 - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
2 Corinthians 7:1 - Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Galatians 5:16 - This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Ephesians 1:4 - According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Ephesians 4:23-24 - 3 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Philippians 2:12-13 - ... work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
1 Thessalonians 4:7 - For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
Titus 2:11;12;14 - For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Hebrews 12:14 - Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
2 Peter 1:3-4 - According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Whether the process is called sanctification (becoming holy) or deification/divinization/theosis (becoming like God), it is clear that we are to be transformed, body and spirit, by Christ during our earthly life.
